My mother and I ate here recently and had a wonderful experience. We came late for lunch, so the door was locked behind us and we were given very sweet and personal service by the owner. The food was outrageously good! I was surprised when our place was set and 3/4 of a stick of butter was put out for the two of us, but when the fresh baked french baguette was served I understood why. We had escargots for an appetizer, which she started on right away and came to us rather quickly. The entrees were exquisite, and one featured some of the tastiest and largest shrimp I have ever seen. All of the ingredients seemed to have been chosen with great care. The cognac and butter sauce was unreal. When the first baguette had been consumed (to my surprise), another was promptly served! It was a unique experience, certainly, and one I recommend!

Jacquie has had this restaurant several years in different incarnations, and I believe that she has found her niche in recreating a small French café, much like what is commonly found in her native France. She, her husband and daughter run a tight operation that can sometimes be overwhelmed if slammed with a large number of people. But Chez Jacqueline does not pretend to be a fast food restaurant; it is an unassuming little gem, where each customer is made to feel at home, where the food is prepared to order and special requests are welcome, if time permits. Our request for large vegetarian meal-size salads was met with a smile ... and a husband's quick trip to the local grocer! Sidewalk seating is minimal, but can be a fun place for people watching. Catch it on Saturday mornings for breakfast or lunch after a visit to Café des Amis. The combination of the two establishments is truly Cajun hospitality at it's finest!

For a french tourist, this is the perfect surprise. A real french cook with real housemade cuisine. Jacqueline and her daughter are just awesome. Tatse the Spicy Alligator "handmade" by Jacqueline. It is just perfect for a Cajune/Creol dish. Thanks Jacky for your warm hospitality.

Very busy - very under staffed. Server was doing a great job but kitchen not keep up. She was working so hard sweat was rolling off her brow!! She actually told us after 30 minutes that we most likely would not get our order for another 30 & offered us the check for coffee. Coffee & benets were good.

Yes, the service is slow, but by no means is it terrible, as other reviews have stated. If you are expecting to get in and out in an hour, you will be disappointed. But if you can handle a leisurely lunch or dinner, then you are in for a treat. Stick to the French dishes over the Cajun dishes, that's where Chez Jacqueline's strength lies. The French onion soup is quite possibly the best I have ever tasted, topping my previous favorite at Cafe Degas in New Orleans. Everyone talks about Cafe Des Amis, and it is certainly warranted, but if you have some time to kill, try out Chez Jacqueline as an alternative one and a while.

On our cross-country trip from California to North Carolina, we were lucky enough to stumble into Chez Jacqueline, owned by three generations of the kindest, most generous ladies you'll meet. They are the epitome of southern hospitality, especially in serving dish after dish of things my picky, road-weary toddlers would eat. The live music was fun and funky, and the boiled crawfish.... well, let's just say that, two months later, I'm STILL dreaming about it, and my mouth is seriously watering all over my keyboard. We ate at a lot of places on our journey, but Chez Jacqueline was easily the tastiest and most memorable. The gumbo, the crawfish chowder, and the grilled shrimp absolutely don't disappoint either.

As Jacqueline and her daughter warn you, this is not fast food and thank heavens for that! Only the owner/family and the musician were sat so we got a lot of attention, the decor is not fancy but works... The food however is lovingly prepared and incredibly authentic, I thought I'd ordered well starting with seafood gumbo and an entree of crawfish etouffe... But my wife out-ordered me as usual, if you think you've ever had 'bisque', unless you've eaten here, you haven't.. How we saved room for the chocolate cake I do not know.

I wish i would have chose a different today. We were driving around and stopped in Breaux Bridge, a cute town with just a few restaurants. This will be brief because that was equal to our dining experience there. It took an hour to get our seafood sampler platter for 2, they did not include the oysters, they were out, which was o.k. by itself. All the items on the platter were heavily deep fried and the alligator was under cooked and raw in some pieces. On the plus side, our server was nice and the live music was great. Overall, I wouldn't go again.

We were going to another Breaux Bridge place for breakfast, but there was a line. We walked down a bit and found Chez Jacqueline's. Zydeco musician Donna Angelle was playing, she is fun & talented! Saturday morning breakfast with zydeco is awesome. Great atmosphere & staff. The only reason it doesn't have 5 stars is the wait. It is a small cook to order place, but I have been to similar places and did not have to wait and hour to get eggs. Our waitress was attentive, I am not sure what the issue is, but it seemed a bit excessive. After about 45 min we must have seemed fidgety, we were brought a fresh and warm loaf of French bread. Yummy. My husband had the eggs Benedict and I had the eggs with crawfish étouffée (I don't remember the name). The étouffée was awesome, I had to get more bread to sop up the awesome gravy. My husbands wasn't great, one of the eggs were very overlooked. With that being said we are quite likely to go back, next time we will get a snack first so we don't get hangry sitting there. There was an LSU game that afternoon, that may be why everyplace was so booked, and why we are now stuck in traffic, giving me plenty of time to write this epic review :)

We did not plan to come here. Just a block up the street is a restaurant on everyone's list of "must go to's" known for the Zydeco Breakfast and music. But when we got there (a Saturday morning and won't accept reservations), it was so packed it was unthinkable to wait for up to 2 hours, just to get in! So, we wandered down the street looking for a passable alternative and came across Chez Jacqueline. The music drew us in, and what a treat we were in for. Luckily, Donna Angelle was performing, and we got a table, enough to accompany the 10 of us, just 8 feet away from Donna. Her voice is heavenly, and what a mood she created for us. She invited several members of our group to come up and perform with her (on tambourines) and we joined in. The food was a little slow in coming out of the kitchen, but we were having so much fun listening and participating in the music that we didn't much care. And, when it did come out, about 40 minutes later, it was so good. The beignets were delicious, not greasy but light and sweet. The pancakes were the biggest I have ever seen, the rest of the breakfast dishes we had were good and hearty, pretty basic fare. The price was right. We left feeling lucky and very full.

The negative reviews for this place are all due to how long the food takes (btw it's not even that long: 30 min at most!) BUT it should be mentioned that all the food is home-cooked from scratch by Chef Jacqueline. We had the rabbit and, respectively, the chicken topped with crawfish ettufe. Both dishes were delicious and tasted very fresh! We also had the escargot as an appetizer and - although we were ambivalent about eating snails at first - we did not regret our choice! Very tasty! The service was fast and pleasant. We really recommend this place if you want authentic and fresh French and Cajun food. The beers are nice and frosty, so saddle up and enjoy yourself! (The people who complained about the wait were probably not in good company! ;-)

This was a horrible experience, I am furious . We waited 45 minutes and never got it food a table before us ordered more food after we ordered and they put their 6 entrees before our 2. They had already ordered an eaten and decided they wanted more. That is BULL

We had the crawfish etouffe over eggs and crawfish omlette for breakfast on a weekday. Both were delicious, and the proprieter was sweet and gracious. Strong coffee, too! Prices are fair (our dishes were about 9 each), but get cash from the atm up the block. Highly recommended.
